Today was our first day back on
the path since our interlude in the Netherlands. It also completes stage 5 of
our coastal journey - the Ceredigion Coast. This section of the coast covers a
total distance of 117 kilometres with a total height gain of 2810 metres.

| Happy to be back on the path at Aberporth |
Our day
started in Aberporth (which literally means ‘river mouth port’), a cute bay which
back in the day was a ship building and fishing port. We made our way around
the bay admiring the artwork paying tribute to the ship building heritage and
local marine mammals. We had to skirt the headland due to a Ministry of Defence
missile testing base in the way.

It was another beautiful, sunny
and calm day with gorgeous clifftop views. We saw two dolphins swimming just off the coast however they only surfaced briefly each time so were unable to get them on camera.

The path followed the rugged coast round to Mwnt, where the conical hill of Foel y Mwnt shelters a picturesque beach and a lovely old church in its lee. The lonely whitewashed Church of the Holy Cross was built around the fourteenth century, though a chapel of ease existed here for sailors since the sixth century.

From Mwnt the path headed inland along fields of barley and country lanes before making its way back to the waters edge along the Afon Teifi (Teifi River) where we stopped for a cold refreshing beverage at the small settlement at Gwbert. From here the path descended into the town of Aberteifi (Cardigan), an attractive walled market town. We then made our way back via our hire car to our accommodation for the next few nights at a place called The Loft on Preseli Farm, Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire.
