Day 57 Fishguard to Strumble Head

Our walk today started by skirting around the hills of Upper Fishguard with gorgeous views of the harbour, Fishguard Fort and the ferry terminal at Goodwick.

Looking across at Goodwick and ferry terminal. Another beach with groynes :(
Along the promenade to Goodwick we discovered artwork and mosaics that informed us the movies 'Moby Dick' (1956) and 'Under the Milkwood' (1971) were shot at Fishguard. We read about the pirate attack on Fishguard and the almost comical failed invasion of the French in 1797; the troops had overindulged in looted wine and wandered over the countryside in search of more loot only to be captured by local farmers.

The path then climbed the cliffs above Goodwick through a beautiful shady forest where we discovered Garn Wen; three Neolithic burial chambers (cromlech) and a soccer pitch that must have seen a few balls lost forever over the cliff.

Kick the ball too hard its lost over the cliff!!

On the cliff top walk to Strumble Head we were delighted to see seals, nesting fulmars and Welsh ponies.
Nesting fulmars. They spend most of their lives at sea, only coming ashore to breed
